Is it possible to monitor the emails sent inside the network.

Question

Hi, I was wondering if i could make a program that could monitor the email messages and the attachment files send through different computers in the network. 

If i could make a program that is installed in the mainserver of the network, then will i be able to track the emails that is sent through that network.

Can anybody help me out.
