label1 does not exist in current context error will occur

Question

hi i use label1 in my .net design page view.aspx i write the code in view.aspx.cs page i.e)name=Label1.Text; when i used lke this the error the name Label1.text does not exist in the current context error will occur.how can i solve this.i didnt know why this error will occur.pls any one explain me. Sorry for asking just silly questions. Thank u

it is because your page not creating the designer object for your label. check for designer.cs. just add the directive AutoEventWireup=true at top of your page. Example:

you can not access the values from that label which is present in another control.

You need to loop through the datalist to access the controls inside it.

As I already told Label1 is placed inside the DataList. Thats why you the label is not accessible in the code behind file.

Here is one more situation. i had a file called details.aspx which was using details.aspx.cs as the code file. As soon I have created this file i said maybe i will use the layout later so i just copy-paste and rename it as template.aspx. I continued my work on details.aspx by adding textboxes labels etc... and methods in the .cs file. but on Build stage i got the magic error The name xxx Does Not Exist in the Current Context. Reason: i was using the same .cs file name for both template.aspx and details.aspx but the controls were only on the details.aspx... I can imagine how confuse was the compiler... so i changed the .cs file name for the template.aspx and all build up successfully...

It's happen some-times just Delete that label and put another label with giving some other id again if not work just restart your visual studio.

Hi Karthi Its not silly question. No one came to the earth with .Net knowledge. Practice makes man perfect. So.. As suthish and krishna words check for label name similarity and also check you have runat=Server in your label.

Check out the Id you have given to that Label Control. Use the same Id you have given to access the value of Label control Ex: if you have given some Id like lblname then use it like bellow. string name=lblname.Text.ToString();
