Looking for Job after career gap

Question

Hi I am Prasanna. I have 2years 5 months of experience in .net(c#.net asp.net AjaxJavscript & sqlsserver).I worked as a software Engineer in small company[Jan 2010 - Jul 2012 ]. Because of family problems I resign job from there.Now I am marriedafter married I am not worked. Because of my personal issues now I have 3 years gap in my career. Now I am eagor to work again.I am searching job with 2years 5 months experience with 3 years gap. I learn mvc but I don't have real time experience.Some companies asking for project experience. how to overcome my career gap in getting job in .Net?? please give your suggestions.

To be honest too-much-honesty won't work in industry! When companies ask for experience they are NOT looking for: - previous day you were working with a company - past 3 years you were working in software-industry This also means they are actually looking for: - somebody who can immediately be productive - knows the latest technologies & trends in their lines SO here is the action plan for you: 1) Spend 1 week on analyzing your area of focus based on industry trends eg: asp.net mvc knockout/angularjs etc. 2) Spend 1-2 months on learning these with: - an active professional / join a firm which offers experience certificate - a learning project which you can showcase - add a certification too NOW YOU ARE IN PAR WITH PROFESSIONALS! Purchase an experience-certificate of 2 or more months which makes you an ACTIVE PROFESSIONAL. Now start job-hunting for smaller-firms. (remember don't go for MNC with these experience certificate they will ask salary-certificate & do background checks) Once you landed in a small-firm work there for at least 6 months. Now you have solid-experience with a company. Then you can try for MNCs or higher.

Hi Prasanna I do agree with project experience. But still I would say Understand / learn latest technology like ASP.Net 5 (vNext MVC6). Give some certifications. Start writing Articles / Blogs. Active on forums. Which help us to understand real life problems and their solutions. On net you will find lots of small samples and projects try hands on them. These will definitely help you to get the good job.

I know Jean Paul suggested at least 6 months but honestly I find that interval to be rather short. I would say you need at least 1 year but this is purely subjective opinion... The truth is it depends on the work you did at that time you see I often encountered developers which have less working time but more experience and knowledge. This is not just because they learn rapidly this is because they had an opportunity to work on various different projects which enhanced their skill set. Now to answer your question well I would probably go with honesty. For example something like the following: I was and still am very thankful for the opportunity that they gave me to re-enter the programming world after a time gap that I had to take. Honestly before this job I was a bit unease about my developer's skills I started to refresh my knowledge and work further on it. After some time I started to look for a job but due to my uneasiness I decided to look for a job in some small-firm where I would have a fresh start. But after I got a job I noticed that I rapidly begin to feel more and more comfortable with my skill set. It was almost like riding a bike you just cannot forget it :D. Now I feel quite comfortable that I overridden the time gap I had and I'm looking for a job where I can continue with my career growth. Last thing I would like to add is be very prepared for a technical interview show them that you truly overcome the gap. If interested you can use TestDome - a site for testing out programming skills  it has various programming tests that you can use for interview preparation. For example for an ASP.NET MVC developer I would recommend the following: programming tests in C# language programming tests in HTML CSS and JS languages

hi Now I am searching job with 6 months experience after 2.5 years gap in my career.I taken that 6 months Experience certificate from one consultancy. But the interviewer asking that why are you looking for change in 6 months after a long gap. Here I am feeling nervous. what answers I should say for this why are you looking for change in 6 months? to convince the Interviewer.

3 Years is not a small gap but you have to overcome by actively learning new technologies and understanding pattern may be directly it will be difficult to find some good companies but try for small companies and after working 6 month or 1 year you can try for good companies.
