MySQL or MsSQL Server

Question

I want to develop a gaming website and all I want to know that whether I should go for MySQL or MsSQL Server? In this many transactions are going to take place such as Insert, update, delete and select as well.

Please let me know your opinion on the same?

Hi Win Thanks for your reply. We are having expertise in Microsoft technologies the only problem that I am facing is that once the product is ready to go live it will how much the SQl server enterprise edition will cost? including hosting and support? Please do reply.

[/quote] I do read EULAs and although I do not always understand the legal stuff it's my understanding that MSSQL Express is free for any use; I might be wrong though. MSSQL express it has its limitations but if you can live with them (and I'm right with the above) there is no reason not to use it. Microsoft products however might add additional costs. You need a Windows operating system and you can not really go for the cheapest option (in win7 that was home basic not sure for win8) as it might be lacking features like iis manager (I burned my fingers on that one on my home system) you need IIS (not sure what the EULA states for the express version and what the imitations are) and possibly some more. You can install a fully functional LAMP (Linux/Apache/MySql/PHP) server with no additional costs. Other costs to consider are hosting / support / maintenance. Lastly your familiarity with certain options can be a reason to choose one over another. If you're more familiar with the Microsoft side of things and can install/develop in no time it can save your client significant money even if their initial outlay (OS database server webserver) is higher. The same obviously applies if you're more familiar with the Linux side of things (e.g. a RedHat solution costs money and includes support). I hope this helps to take the correct decision.
