Operator overloading

Question

Hi I'm working on several business objects that inherit and expose int32 datetime and string data types. Something like outInt32 ourString ourDateTime. Now I was able to overload most of the operators like == != >= ++ and soon but I am stuck because I can't overload the assignment operator =. Has someone been able to overload the assignment operator successfully I know it says in the docs that you can't but C# has a special method assigned for it called op_Assign how would I be able to override that one using the operator keyword. Hello there pare! Hmmm mukhang mahirap nga gusto mong mangyari. MS insisted that overloading = will just open C# for abuse (much like C++). Pare have you tried the protected method MemberwiseClone?I think it suffices albeit an explicit cast is needed since this one always return a System.Oject. You can look it up in the doc.

Hello all It is comforting to realize I am not alone in my quest to overload the assignment operator. My particular need for the capability is to determine if an assignment between two instances of my own user defined type (struct) is legitimate or not. (For those interested I have a units of measurement library for engineering purposes that generates exceptions when a client programmer attempts to add quantities with incompatible units of measure - for example adding velocity and position). My searches have been fruitless thus far and I have run into the same brick wall with regards = can not be overloaded in MS documentation. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Doug

Hi Kowan Thanks for the list of overrideable operators but I already saw those from the .Net documentation. What I'm looking for is a way to overload the assignment operator =. public static MyCustomType operator = (MyCustomType leftV int RightV) { ... } this code will not compile because the assignment operator is not overridable. So my question was is there are hack to IL or thru reflection to override it? since a special method op_assign is generated in the IL. Hanggang sa muli Tikbalang

You might have to override explicity and implicity type convertion operators. You can lookup implicit converstion operator in c# docs.
