Problem in Javascript Text Validation

Question

when i m trying to use the variable txtFName1 as shown below. it doesn't work in the 'if'. Is there any way to use the variable in the 'if' in .net 3.5 var txtFName1 = (document.getElementById(' '); if (txtFName1== ) { alert(First Name field can't be left blank); txtFName1.focus(); return false; } Pls help Thanx in Advance.... Eagerly waiting for the response.

Try this it will work function Checkusername() { var txtusername = document.getElementById(' '); if (txtusername.value==) { alert('Textbox must not be empty'); return false; } else { return true; } }

Try this: var txtFName1 = document.getElementById(' ').value; //you didn't get the value if (txtFName1== ) { alert(First Name field can't be left blank); txtFName1.focus(); return false; } HTH

The   tag is for ASP but not JavaScript. Are you sure that you want ASP to put the value of txtFName.ClientID there? It will be done when the page is generated and will always be the same when the JavaScript executes. If that is what you need then I would add diagnostic code to determine what the value is that is being put into the HTML; it might not be what you think it is.
