validations in SharePoint services list

Question

Hi I have some requirements related to validations for sharepoint list. I applied using javascript.But is there any other alternatives to apply full fledged validations to a sharepoint list. Can you please share any articles to know about how to use validations and types in sharepoint services 3.0.
