Amazon WorkMail Now Supports More Email Client Applications

The market leader in public cloud services, Amazon Web Services has currently announced an enhancement to its subscription-based WorkMail email and calendar service which will likely be welcomed by some of its existing users. It is now possible to access email from WorkMail over Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac along with email clients which support the 30 year old IMAP protocol.

Email clients supporting IMAP include Apple’s Mail app, Mozilla’s Thunderbird, and many others. Apparently, Apple’s Calendar app can now be hooked up to WorkMail over IMAP.

AWS, in its official blog, states,

“Amazon WorkMail now allows you to use Microsoft Outlook 2016 for Mac to access your email and calendar, and email client applications that use the IMAP protocol to access your email. This means users can choose from a wide range of email clients when using Amazon WorkMail, including Microsoft Outlook for Windows and Mac OS X, IMAP-based email clients, mobile devices and email clients that use the ActiveSync protocol, Apple Mail and Calendar applications on OS X, and the Amazon WorkMail web client from a web browser. In addition, IT applications that use the IMAP protocol to access email will now also work with Amazon WorkMail.”
