At today’s Pixel2 Event, Google has launched
Pixelbook, a 2-in-1 laptop which looks like a high-performance version of its legacy Chromebooks.
With Pixelbook, Google stands in a tough competition with the high-end notebooks from other brands, such as Microsoft Surface Book or Lenovo Yoga Laptops or Apple Macbooks. The device is equipped with a 12.3-inch display, bigger keys than usual, and a wide trackpad to make it more stylish.
The Pixelbook can be converted into a tablet by flipping it around. The screen size 12.3-inch offers a 3:2 aspect ratio. A 10-hour battery backup makes it more user friendly. The company claims that just a 15-minute charging can give you 2 hours of battery life which is amazing. And the more surprising element is its charger that can charge the newly launched Pixel 2 phones also. Yes, it can!

Just like Apple, and to some extent, Microsoft, Google has also built a dedicated key to inbuilt Google Assistant into this laptop. If we talk about hardware configuration, the base model of Chrome OS powered device is equipped with 7th generation Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of disk storage. 2 USB-C ports enable it to connect with other devices and in case of Pixel phones, we can set the Automatic tethering of data. There will be three variants of Pixelbook as per the announcement.
The pricing for Google Pixelbook starts $999 and reaches upto $1649 which, according to the company, this device deserves. The pre-orders for the device has started from today, however, the shipping will be started on October 31 in the US, UK, and Canada.
The company is offering support for a stylus like Pixelbook Pen that can be availed on an additional cost of cost $99. The Pixelbook Pen will be supported by many Android-powered apps in future, however, not clear how many. The stylus has only 10ms of latency, and it will work with the Assistant for annotations.
“With Pixelbook, we’ve reimagined the laptop as a high-performance Chromebook, with a versatile form factor that works the way you do. It’s the first laptop with the Assistant built in, and the Pixelbook Pen makes the whole experience even smarter.”
