Intel Expects To Release New Memory Storage That Is 1000 Times Faster

Intel, the renowned microprocessors and semiconductor chip maker, has been planning on launching a new memory storage that is expected to work 1000 times faster in terms of data storage and data rendering. The storage is called Intel® Optane™ Solid State Drive (SSD) that, as per the company, is “a storage solution that behaves like system memory is needed”.

The company defines this Optane SSD as,

“The Intel® Optane™ SSD DC P4800X is the first product to combine the attributes of memory and storage. With an industry-leading combination of high throughput, low latency, high QoS and ultra-high endurance, this innovative solution is optimized to break through data access bottlenecks by providing a new data storage tier. The DC P4800X accelerates applications for fast caching and fast storage to increase scale per server and reduce transaction costs for latency sensitive workloads. In addition, the DC P4800X enables data centers to deploy bigger and more affordable datasets to gain new insights from large memory pools.”

The company boasts that the new Optane SSD will be a perfect storage solution for Data Centers because it eliminates the storage bottlenecks by allowing bigger and more affordable data sets. Also, it is very useful in reducing the transaction costs for latency-sensitive workloads that eventually improves the overall TCO of a data center.

However, the cost and availability of the product are not mentioned yet by the company but they are developing this new SSD storage in order to deliver the unparalleled combination of high throughput, low latency, high QoS and ultra-high endurance.

Well, with big brands like Intel working on manufacturing such high-performance devices, it seems, we will be able to transfer TBs of data within a blink of an eye.
