Microsoft Expands OneDrive Capabilities By Introducing File On-Demand

The second day of Microsoft Build 2017 has been dedicated to surprising announcements. Microsoft has introduced OneDrive Files On-Demand.

It has been two years since the company disappointed users by ditching the placeholder files in Windows 10. Now, with this announcement, the company has again delighted users as this on-demand feature lets OneDrive pick out data from the cloud, and that is without syncing all files and folders.

Microsoft says that it is planning to implement new status icons for locally available files and for files on the cloud, in file explorer. Also, OneDrive Files On-Demand are only downloaded when a user needs them, thus decreasing the system space needed by these files. This simply expands the capability of OneDrive.

However, this feature will be available in the recently announced Windows 10 Fall Creators Update that is expected to arrive in September.
