Microsoft announces that Azure SQL Data Warehouse has launched new updates to the
Azure portal as well as to SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) so as to provide you with a flawless experience while loading, monitoring, and developing your SQL Data Warehouse.
The updates, goes on to include integrated support for loading from 20+ data stores on premises as well as in the cloud, a simple process in order to troubleshoot common issues, along with highly requested functionality within SSMS.
The SQL Data Warehouse offers you a completely managed petabyte-scale cloud solution, which is highly elastic and which goes on to enable you to provision and scale up to 60 times larger in seconds. You can also go on to scale compute and storage independently, allowing you to range from burst to archival scenarios, and pay based off what you are currently using, instead of being locked into a confined bundle.
The following are the latest features available at Azure Portal.
Quick Load
You will now be able to quickly integrate your SQL Data Warehouse with Azure Data Factory (ADF) with the latest task panel that consists of common commands to execute against your data warehouse.
The Azure Data Factory is a completely well managed cloud-based data integration service that can be used for populating the QL Data Warehouse with data from your existing system. Microsoft informs that it will save your valuable time and enable you to focus on evaluating as well as building solutions along with deriving faster insights.
Given below are some of the main benefits of loading data using Azure Data Factory with the SQL Data Warehouse, as per the
official blog.
Rich data store support: built-in support for 20+ data stores on-premises and in the cloud.
Easy to set up: intuitive wizard with no scripting required.
Secure and compliant: data is transferred over HTTPS or ExpressRoute and the global service presence ensures your data never leaves the geographical boundary.
Unparalleled performance by using PolyBase: using PolyBase is the most efficient way to move data into Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
Troubleshooting
You will now be able to simply go on to troubleshoot issue which are related to your SQL Data Warehouse with the new version of the troubleshoot blade. This goes on to provide instructions on how to self diagnose your QL Data Warehouse for common issues.
Monitoring
You can now go on to easily view the number of concurrency slots which your queries are consuming along with resource class. This would enable you to
manage your workload.
SQL Server Management Studio
Microsoft has gone on to address issues across SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS) allowing you to do the following as per the official blog:
