Skype Lite For Indian Android Smartphones Launched

During the keynote at the "Future Decoded" event held in India, Satya Nadella announced the launch of Skype Lite for Android smartphones, with an aim to offer lightweight and data- friendly messaging and sharing, along with calling experience on low-end smartphones.

Skype Lite has been made especially  for India, and it has been developed in partnership with Microsoft India Development Center (IDC), Hyderabad. This new app is only 13MB in size; it’s fast and offers reliable Skype experience.

The app also goes on to support Microsoft Bot Framework and conversational UI. It comes with a built-in data saving feature that allows you to track mobile as well as Wi-Fi data usage anytime. When you share a picture on Skype Lite, it will automatically be compressed before uploading, hence, reducing the size of the picture. Also, when you are forwarding a picture, the sharing will automatically take place within the services, hence you do not need to download the picture first, and then upload it. This, definitely, will save a small fortune's worth of data as well as time.

Skype Lite sports a dark theme too, as it has been quite popular on the Skype Preview app on Windows 10.

Skype Lite has been integrated with mobile calling and SMS, however, to help remove the SMS clutter that would allow you to filter Skype conversations along with the texts.

This app offers new experiences, as it can completely localize in seven Indian languages – Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, and Gujarati. However, certain things are still missing from here, such as - Mojis and Skype’s popular video emojis.

You can now download Skype Lite from the Play Store. Click here to download.
