Virtual Reality Reaches WordPress With 360 Degree Video And Photos

Virtual reality (VR) is among the biggest trend of 2016, and we saw the launch of several headsets, viewers as well as related shenanigans, hence, it is of little surprise that omnipresent blogging service WordPress.com is now implementing it.

You will now be able to create as well as publish your own VR content on any WordPress.com site, starting with 360° photos and 360° videos (beta). You will also be able to view regular photos as well as panoramas in VR.  While 360° video embedding is still in beta but 360° photos embedding is available now.

You can support 360° photos to your WordPress website by embedding them using the following syntax:
  1. [vr url=path-to-photo.jpg view=360]

This will embed the 360° photo in a viewer that lets users explore the image in the browser, via Google Cardboard, or using VR headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, or Google Daydream.

The following syntax embeds your panorama photos in the same viewer.
  1. [vr url=path-to-photo.jpg view=cinema]
The company in its official website states,

“Our goal is to make publishing VR content as simple as publishing text or photos to the web — just add VR content to your site and anyone with a web browser can instantly enjoy it.”

The examples of 360° photos and 360° videos can be viewed at the official blog.
