Introduction
In Expressing Blend we can combine objects. Follow the steps below to accomplish this.
Step 1
Draw a rectangle and an ellipse.
Step 2
Select both objects using the "Selection" tool; here we have a couple of ways to select objects.
a. By Dragging: Click outside the object and drag over them and release the mouse.
b. By Shift + Click on objects
c. By Ctrl + Click on objects
Step 3
After selecting objects navigate to menu 'Object > Combine > [Select suitable option here].
You will find here the following options:
a. Unite and Divide
Unite and Divide are similar to other properties. Both images shown below only have different colors. Remember, when you select objects, the last selected object color will fill the entire combined shape.
b. Intersect
The Intersect option removes all extra art/shape which is not overlapped, which means that the overlapped part will be visible. Here the fill color will also depend on the last object's fill color.
c. Subtract
The Subtract option removes all overlapped art/shape, which means that overlapped parts will not be visible. The output shape will depend on the last selected object.
If the last selected object is a rectangle, then the shape would appear like:
If the last selected object is an ellipse, then the resulting shape appears like:
Here the fill color will also depend on the last selected object's fill color.
d. Exclude Overlap
Exclude Overlap excludes the overlapped area from the output shape. Here the fill color will also depend on the last selected object's fill color.
That's all about Combining Objects in Expression Blend.
