Backup and Restore Lists in SharePoint 2013

The following is the procedure to explain how to backup and restore SharePoint lists.

Step 1

Here I have used an Employee details list as in Figure 1.

Step 2

Click List menu item in the top navigation and click List settings as in Figure 2.

Step 3

Click Save list as template as in Figure 3.

Step 4

Enter the file name and template name as in Figure 4. If you need contents (list items) of the list item select include content checkbox. And click the OK button.

Step 5

The screen as in Figure 5 will appear. The list template is saved in the list template gallery. Click the list template gallery link and it automatically goes to the list template gallery list.

The List template gallery shows as in Figure 6.

Note: Here I used the list template in the same site collection. If you need a different site collection then download the list template and insert the list template into the list template gallery for a specific site collection.

Step 6

Go to Site Contents and click add an app item as in Figure 7.

Select your list template menu item as in Figure 8.

Enter the name of new list as in Figure 9 and click the Create button. 

The created list will show in Site Contents.

Once clicked the new list shows the list items.
