Configure Alternate Access Mappings in SharePoint 2013 Central Administration

This configuration assists the admins to edit public URLs, internal URLs, and to connect for mapping external resources on Central Admin for all the web applications.

How to configure it?

Let’s open Central Admin of SharePoint on your machine. On your Windows desktop screen, click Start >> Administrative Tools >> SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.


  • Run it as an administrator to have elevated privileges.
  • You will see the screenshot given below.


  • Central Admin is configured under the categories given below.
  • Click on "System Settings".


  • Go to "Farm Account".


  • Click on “Configure alternate access mappings”.
  • You will see the screen below.

Configure

Here, you can map the public URLs, internal URLs, and the external resources with the web applications.

Let’s see how?

  • Edit Public URLs


  • Alternate Access Mapping Collection

    Here, you have to select the web application to whom you want to map the collection with.

  • Public URLs

    Once you select the web application, provide a public URL as default, Intranet, Internet, Custom, or Extranet and map it as a public URL to the web application.

  • Add Internal URLs


  • Alternate Access Mapping Collection

    Here, you have to select the web application to which you want to map the collection.

  • Add Internal URL

    Provide a link as default, Intranet, Internet, Custom, or Extranet and map it as a internal URL to the web application.

  • Map to External Resource


  • Resource Name

    Provide the external resource name.

  • URL protocol, host, and port

    Provide the URL protocol, host and port number for the external resource you want to connect.

Once you configure, click on OK. The alternate Access Mappings which you provide will be used connect the web application through SharePoint Central Admin.
