How To Drive More Traffic To Your Blog

If you write technical articles or blogs, I’m sure you would like to get more traffic to your content. I’ve been writing online articles and blogs for a while now and have millions of visitors on my articles. In this article, I will share some of the tips that might help you gain more visitors.

Introduction

I started writing technical content; i.e., articles, blogs, or tutorials in 1999. Yes! I’m that old. For the past 18 years, I’ve been writing mostly on programming, career advice, and how to become a good human being. I’ve authored several programming books (both print and e-books) and thousands of articles and blogs.

All of my content is published on C# Corner, where I have over 102 million views on my 3700+ articles and blogs.

C# Corner is one of the most popular online communities for software developers and attracts over 3 million readers with over 7 million page views per month. All C# Corner growth and traffic is organic. Over 85% of traffic comes from Google organic searches. We have never done a paid promotion of C# Corner and its articles.

So, how did I do that? Here are some tips that have worked for me.

  1. Know Your Audience.
  2. Be Specific.
  3. Content Is King.
  4. Get Engaged.
  5. Be Social.

Know Your Audience.

There are two kinds of players. One plays for himself/herself, and the other plays for the audience. Allen Iverson, my favorite and one of the most exciting players in the history of basketball, always played for his audience.

So, who do you write for? If your goal is to gain more traffic and exposure, you need to start thinking about your audience.

Before you start writing, you must ask yourself the following questions -

  • Who am I writing for?
  • What will my readers be searching for in Google?
  • What are my readers’ expectations?
  • Am I writing for beginners or experienced readers?

Be Specific.

The topic and the title are the most important parts of your article.

You must choose a topic that is trendy and something people search for online. You need to become your reader and ask yourself, "What would I be searching for in Google to get to this topic?"

Keep your title simple. The title should be something your readers will type in Google.

Keywords are also important to search engines to place your content higher in the rankings.

Content is King.

Bill Gates once said, “Content is king.” Google and other search engines give higher preference to quality content.

Make sure your content is quality content and it covers the topic that the title suggests it will. Don’t forget to cite the references.

Get engaged.

Remember that pretty girlfriend who left you? It's because you weren’t paying attention to her. To seal the deal, you have to put a ring on her finger.

Once your article or blog is published, you need to keep a watch on who is reading it and what they are saying. You must read and respond to the questions and comments.

If you keep your readers engaged, your brand and loyalty will grow.

Social rules.

Social media could be your best friend if you know how to use it. Not only can you use your personal channels but you can ask your friends and other influencers also to help you promote your content. You may want to trade links with other influencers. You promote them and they promote you.

Summary

In this article, I shared a few tips that may help you gain more traffic on your online blog and/or articles.
