Accessing controls in diffrent form

Question

I'm trying to make an error form where if I want it to popup I just have to define the caption of the label and then show the dialog but I don't know how to access that label from a form other than the form its in.

you could also try to make your control internal or private internal as its modifier. :)

OMG! Thanks so much that worked perfect. Now what I'm trying to do is play the sound when error dialogs appear or at least the sound for the MessegeBoxs (when they are displayed)

Sorry for the double post. The second one has removed the line: private string ferrortext; That's the only difference.

I created a new winforms project and added a second form class named Form2. Form2 has a single label on it. I want to change the window caption and the text of the label. The label is declared PRIVATE in the form2 class so I can't access it from form1's class. I can either change this to PUBLIC (which is not a good idea because it's designer-managed code) or create an accessor for it. I'll do that latter. I created this property to get / set the text property of the label. public string errortext { get { return label1.Text; } set { label1.Text = value; } } The first form has a button on it. In the onclick event for that button I put this: private void button1_Click(object sender System.EventArgs e) { Form2 errdlg = new Form2(); errdlg.Text = ERROR; errdlg.errortext= An error occurred; errdlg.Show(); }

Hmm... Are you sure that works? Basiclly what I'm trying to do is make a one form for all my erros. I would change the text in it by simply creating the instance of the forum then editing the label then showing the form...

Hi Cheese Slayer You can add another constructor class with a parameter and pass it to your label text on the form. snippet: public myClass(string errorLabel) { labelError.Text = errorLabel; } does it help? let me know if I miss interpret what you want. cheers chris
