Automatically use cookies or cookieless sessions

Question

when the User first runs my application I would like to detect wheteher they have cookies enabled and if so use cookies sessions and if not use cookieless sessions for the rest of the application. Is this possible ? and if so what is the best way to do it ? Any help appreciated
