DATABASE problem

Question

I have made an application in C# .NET with SQL SERVER2005 as database......
Now want to ask that when I will make exe of this file ,then how can I include database to that ,so that when I install my application on client machine database should also install there because without database my application won't work............

My problem is that how can I include database in exe so that database also get installed on client machine and is it necessary to install SQL SERVER2005 database on client machine ?

Vinni you need to Include databaseFile also With the Exe . for Doing this Include the Database File + Log file in Setup of Your Application . When you Create Setup using Setup And Deployment Project in Visual Studio at that time Include the database File in Application Folder so that it will also copy Database file along with Exe. and ya its Necessary to Install SQL Server on Client machine ..it can also accomplished by Setup project just Select Select SQL Server as Dependency in Setup project That Will check weather SQL Server is installed or not on machine and if not then it will install it automatically .

Hi Vinni you can Password Protect your Access Database as Access Database has feature to lock the database by password .. you need to specify password in connection string to open the database in Connection string while opening the database connection for apply password in access . follow the below article how to protect accessdatabase using password its just 2-3 Clicks :) http://databases.about.com/od/tutorials/ss/passwordprotect.htm

Yes vinni Ms Access will do ..if application is local then :) also as you told you dont need to install additional components as all having ms office :) and please check answer as accepted if my answer helped you :)

Just copying database files will not solve the problem. Your database must be registered on SQL Server 2005 as well. 1. First your client machine needs SQL Server 2005 2. You need to register your application database with client's SQL Server 2005. This you can do in your code that but for that you need to learn how to register a database using scripts. ALTERNATELY you can have your CREATE DATABASE CREATE TABLES SPs etc SQL Script and run it during your installation. That will create a database on your client's machine. For your questions it seems like you will need to learn a lot. 3. Most of the large application developers (if there is only one or two clients) copy their database and register on client's machine and then deploy them application. Good luck!

Vinni as you told you need portable thing so i suggested Access Database because you need to run application without installing it directly from pen-drive. Ms SQL Server is good Choice if you Want to Store Massive amount of Data but when you use MS SQL Server you can not make Application Portable as you need to install MS SQL Server on Every PC where you Install your Application . but again you need to take care of Security too as Local MS SQl Server can Set Local Database password so you need to Encrypt the data in order to Prevent the theft . as Access Will be Good To handle Data Till 10000 records efficiently . If your need is more then that then Better to Go With MS SQL Server . Hope this Clears your Doubt :)

Also on many websites i read articles which specify that MSAccess is not suitable for storing large number of images .......... And in my application I am using images in large number and each image is about 75-80 KB.......... Kindly guide me that should I still use MSAccess or not..............

Since I am distributing application through portable device so how can I add security to my application............ since database evrything will be there so how can I secure my database content from being copying.......... How can i copy protect my data..............

Kirtan which database will be suitable to use in the application as the database usually occupy large space. Also as I have to store images in database so will MSAccess2007 be suitable or not? As almost all users use Office and there will be no need to install any other database...........

We buy and use so many softwares which uses database but not always we require to install database ....... My application is around 550MB(with database) and .NET framework is around 25MB. Now how can i include database setup so that I could distribute everything in one cd and user could run application from cd without data being installed on clients' system.............
