Listbox.Selected.item

I am trying to get the text of the currently selected item. listBox1.DataSource = dataset.Tables["words"]; listBox1.DisplayMember = "words"; label1.Text = listBox1.SelectedItem.ToString() When i call listBox1.SelectedItem.ToString() it returns: System.Data.DataRowView. The display of the listbox is fine, but i dont want the type i want the text of the currently selected item. I am new. please help.

Since you are binding the listbox to a dataview the SelectedItem property returns a DataRowView object.. You will need to cast the object returned by the SelectedItem property of the listbox to datarowview and get the value of the column that you have set as DisplayMember. you should be able to get the text of the selected item using code similar to the following: label1.Text = ((DataRowView)listBox1.SelectedItem)[words] you might need to tweak the syntax a bit ... -dip
