Primary Key Auto Increment Value show minus one (-1) in ID Textbox field at run time.

Question

Hello I am using VS 2008 with SQL Server 2000 I have a master detail form and I am just drag the two master detail datagrid view in my form. So when I am inserting for new record at run time the value of Primary Key ID in my Text Box which is auto generate shows -1 while that it should show the next number of record so my question is that how It show the next number of record in ID Text value. Thanks for Answer my query but I solve this issue to Install VS 2005 in my system and it is working fine and not show the -1 at when add new record. So I think that may be VS 2008 has some issue with SQL Server 2000 and with VS 2005 it is compatible.

u have to either give where clause in ur select statement or if u have to find max of ur auto incremented primary key u have to use max function .. below code ll select max of ID (auto incremented primary key) from my table called test and will display it in textbox. hope it helps u string sqlText = select max(id) as id from test  ; SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection ( ur Connection Srting ); SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand (sqlText connection); connection.Open(); SqlDataReader dr = command.ExecuteReader(); dr.Read(); TextBox2.Text = dr[ id ].ToString(); ******************** Please mark Accepted if u find it helpful

HI saqib u mean to say ur primary key is auto generated and u r binding the value of ur primary key to ur textbox.. and this is whr u r facing problem?? am i right ?
