Query on SSL internals

Question

I have read a bit about SSL and HTTPS support for ASP.Net. I have gone through the details about setting up certificate and enabling 443 port for SSL. I just wanted to know the entire process about how server and client communicate and establish a secure channel...please let me know if any good links for the same.
