Reuse LINQ query

Question

Hi!

I'm having trouble figuring out how to reuse my LINQ query in another class so I don't have to rewrite the query over and over again Here is the query I am using below

On each class there is one slight change I need to change the "in Client,GetPaperAsync(),Result"

The rest of the code would be the same

public static void LoadGridView()

{
var client = new Service1Client();

            var query = (from c in client.GetBarberDimeAsync().Result
                         select new USPaperResults
                         {
                             CoinID = c.CoinID,
                             Checkbox = (bool)c.Checkbox,
                             Paper= c.Paper,

                         }).ToList<USPaperResults>();

Value = query;
}

Bryan You appear to have omitted to call the extension method itself: var client = new Service1Client(); Value = client.GetBarberDimeAsync().Result .GetResults() ;

Vulpes This is what I have come up with looking at your example public static IEnumerable GetResults (this IEnumerable ie) where T : USsingleResults { return (from c in ie select new USsingleResults { CoinID = c.CoinID Checkbox = (bool)c.Checkbox Year = c.Year Description = c.Description }).ToList (); } Service1Client is a local service. In another class I add this to the constructor and I get this error var client = new Service1Client(); Value = client.GetBarberDimeAsync().Result; Cannot implicitly convert type 'System.Collections.ObjectModel.ObservableCollection ' to 'System.Collections.ObjectModel.ObservableCollection '

You could put the query inside an extension method but what is the type of client.GetBarberDimeAsync().Result or any other collections that might be used? As they share the same properties it looks like they might be IEnumerables of classes which derive from USPaperResults. If that were the case the code would be on the following lines: public static class Global { public static List GetUSPaperResults (this IEnumerable ie) where T: USPaperResults { return (from c in ie select new USPaperResults { CoinID = c.CoinID Checkbox = (bool)c.Checkbox Paper= c.Paper }).ToList (); } } // in another class public static void LoadGridView() { var client = new Service1Client(); // where's this used? Value = client.GetBarberDimeAsync().Result.GetUSPaperResults(); } If the other classes are in different namespaces I'd put the Global class in its own namespace then import it into the files where those classes are defined.
