Starting a process

Hi Another question for you. I have a third party software that i need to run in VB.NET. This third party software will output some numbers to a text file called gauge.txt. Later on I will have to read this text file. How can run this software to get that out put? Thank you

Thank you for that. I also found out that one of the problems is that the COM port is not set correctly. Now I have COM prot 2 on my machine and it is also set to COM port 2 in the third party App. but for some reason when I use System.Diagnostics.Process to start the App I get a message that the COM is not set correctly so I am trying to find some code for VB.NET to set the COM port before opening the program. If you have any idea how to do this Id like the help. Thank you again

You need to start a process and wait for it to exit. Something like Dim p As New Process p.StartInfo.FileName = path and name of exe p.StartInfo.UseShellExecute = True p.Start() While (p.WaitForExit(100) = False) Application.DoEvents() End While The while loop sits and waits for 100 milleseconds to see if the exe has finished. You can pass arguments to the exe as well look under the startinfo object to see what is available. cheers Si
