The ACB had arrested Srinivas Reddy on February 22, 2023, based on a complaint from a liquor shop owner in Armoor town of Nizamabad district. The complainant alleged that the SI had demanded a bribe of Rs. 5 lakh to avoid taking action against his shop for alleged irregularities. The ACB laid a trap and caught Srinivas Reddy red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from the complainant. The SI was subsequently arrested and produced before the Special Court for SPE and ACB Cases in Hyderabad.During the bail hearing, Srinivas Reddy's counsel argued that the charges against his client were false and fabricated. He claimed that the complainant had a personal grudge against the SI and had filed a false complaint to settle scores. The prosecution, however, opposed the bail plea, arguing that the charges against Srinivas Reddy were serious and that he had misused his official position to demand a bribe. The prosecution also pointed out that the SI had a history of misconduct and had been suspended from service in the past. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the Special Court granted bail to Srinivas Reddy on certain conditions. The court directed the SI to surrender his passport and not leave the country without the court's permission. He was also ordered to attend the court proceedings regularly and cooperate with the investigation. The bail granted to Srinivas Reddy is a setback for the ACB, which has been cracking down on corrupt officials in the state. The ACB has arrested several government officials, including police officers, in recent months on charges of corruption and bribery. The case against Srinivas Reddy is a reminder that corruption remains a major problem in India. Despite the efforts of law enforcement agencies, corrupt officials continue to exploit their positions for personal gain. The public must remain vigilant and report any instances of corruption to the appropriate authorities.
