The NIA, in its chargesheet filed before a special court in Chennai, has alleged that the blast was carried out by two ISIS radicals, identified as Mohammed Azharuddin and Mohammed Riyaz. The two men had allegedly planted an improvised explosive device (IED) at the cafe on April 10, 2021, which exploded, injuring 19 people.The NIA has also charged four other people, including the owner of the cafe, with providing logistical support to the ISIS radicals. The four men have been identified as Mohammed Iqbal, Mohammed Rafiq, Mohammed Farooq, and Mohammed Yusuf.The NIA has said in its chargesheet that the ISIS radicals had planned to carry out a series of blasts in Tamil Nadu, including one at a temple in Madurai. However, their plans were foiled by the NIA, which arrested them in May 2021.The NIA has also said that the ISIS radicals had received funding from ISIS operatives in Syria. The money was used to purchase explosives and other materials for the blasts.The chargesheet has been filed under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including murder, attempt to murder, and criminal conspiracy. The six accused are currently in judicial custody and are likely to face trial soon.
