Microsoft R Open v3.4.0 Released

Microsoft has released an upgraded version of its enhanced open source distribution of R language. Microsoft R Open version 3.4.0 (MRO v3.4.0) is now available for download for Mac, Windows as well as Linux, with 100% compatibility to R 3.4.0.

The company explains,

“The current version, Microsoft R Open 3.4.0, is based on (and 100% compatible with) R-3.4.0, the most widely used statistics software in the world, and is therefore fully compatibility with all packages, scripts and applications that work with that version of R. It includes additional capabilities for improved performance, reproducibility, as well as support for Windows and Linux-based platforms.”

The upgraded version includes the following major improvements –
  • Reduced size of installer image
  • Bundled packages updated
  • Upgraded R language engine to R 3.4.0
  • Compatibility with the Just-In-Time (JIT) compiler introduced in R 3.4.0
As per the official Revolutions blog,

“As usual, MRO points to a fixed CRAN snapshot from May 1 2017, but you can use the built-in checkpoint package to access packages from an earlier date (for compatibility) or a later date (to access new and updated packages). MRO is supported on Windows, Mac and Linux (Ubuntu, RedHat/CentOS, and SUSE). MRO 3.4.0 is 100% compatible with R 3.4.0, and you can use it with any of the 10,000+ packages available on CRAN (Comprehensive R Archive Network).”

For downloading the MRO v3.4.0 package and for release notes, you can visit the Microsoft R Open GitHub repository or the MRAN (Microsoft R Application Network) portal.
