Dot Per Inch (DPI) Scaling For The Display in Windows 10

Microsoft always provides new things to its users. Now Microsoft has provided a new gift to its users. Microsoft will release Windows 10 for Windows lovers on the 29th of July 2015. In Windows 10 Microsoft introduced many new things. The Start menu is back in Windows 10, the new browser project Spartan is introduced, Cortana for better searching and many more that make Windows 10 more reliable and more user-friendly when compared with the previous versions of Windows.

As we know, there are many new changes introduced in Windows 10 when compared with the previous versions of Windows. So there are many changes in the settings and in other things. In this article we will learn how to change the Dots Per Inch (DPI) scaling for the display settings. DPI is very important for the appearance of text and picture. If we use the lower DPI then the appearance will be smaller and if we use the higher DPI then the appearance will be higher.

Now here I tell you how to manage it step-by-step.

Step 1

Press the Windows + R key to open the Windows Registry Editor. When it is opened type "regedit" in it and then press the Enter key.

When you click on the Ok button then you will see a Windows Registry Editor. In this window you have a link HKEY_CURRENT_USER.

Now open this link. When you expand it you will see a Control Panel folder in it. Expand the Control Panel folder. You will see the Desktop. When you click on the Desktop then there are many options available in the Desktop folder.

As I said, there are many options available in the Desktop folder. Here you will see the option Win8DpiScaling. The value of this option is 0, right-click on it and change its value from 0 to 1.

Step 3

Now restart your computer.

Step 4

Now go to the settings and in the settings go to the System Settings. When you click the System Settings at the first position you will see the Display option. Here you will see a slider bar by which we can change the text, app and other items as you desire. Here you move the slider from the left to the right and the right to the left depending on your needs for DPI scaling. Here the DPI scaling will be measured in percentage.

Step 5

Now open the Control Panel. In the Control Panel go to the Display Settings. Here in the Control Panel will be the icon view mode.

Step 6

When you click on the Display settings then there is a new window opened where you have the link set a custom scaling level. Click on this link.

Step 7

When you click on this link a new window will be appear, named Custom Sizing option.

Here when you go to the numbers, a slider will be shown. We can move this slider from the left to the right or the right to the left as we want to for our DPI. If we do not want to use the slider option then there is also a second option. There is also a drop down list in the same window. From this drop down list we can select the DPI Percentage as we desire. It just looks as in the following picture.

Now finally click on the OK button. Then click on the Apply button. Here it asks you whether to Sign Out Now or Sign Out Later. If it is your desire then you can use Sign Out. After successfully signing out you will have the DPI that you selected.
