Microsoft Word provides the feature to place a border on any or all of the four sides of a table similar to text paragraphs and pages. And you can also add various types of shading to table rows and columns.
In this article you can learn how to add any of the borders around a table and how to add various shadows to various rows and columns of the tables.
Add Borders to a Table
Do some simple steps to add borders in table present in your Word document.
Step 1
Suppose you have a table in your Word document.
Step 2
Now Select your Word document table. To select a table, click anywhere over the table that will make a Cross Icon at the top-left corner of the table. Then Just click this cross icon to select the table.
Step 3
Click the Home Tab and choose Border Button available in paragraph group. Which displays a list of border suggestions for a border around the selected table.
Step 4
Select any of the options which are available in the border list by just simple clicking over it. Here I have selected the Left border.
Step 5
To delete an existing border, select the No Border option from the border options.
Using Border Options
Step 1
When you click the Border Button to display a list of options to use a border, then select the Border and Shading option available at the bottom border list. This will show a Border and Sanding dialog box. This dialog box is used to set borders and shading around a selected table.
Step 2
Now click the Border tab which will display border setting, style, color and option to be applied to the text, table or paragraph.
Step 3
You can customize the table border by setting color, width or width thickness available in the style section. You will also see your border style preview in the preview section.
Add Shades To Table
Do the following to add shades on a selected table or its rows or columns. Here I am applying shading on the table column.
Step 1
Select the column of which you want to apply a shading.
Step 2
Now, similar to as described above, click Border Button and select the Border and Shading option. This will display the Border and Shading dialog box which is used to set the border and shading around your selected column.
Step 3
Click over Shading tab and Fill, color and Style which will be applied in your selected column. And you can also see the preview in the preview section.
