Adding Microsoft Project .mpp Files Into Search Results

Issue

Microsoft Project (.mpp) extension is not supported by SharePoint OOTB. Thus, if you upload Microsoft project file in SharePoint library, you won't be able to search the file.

Workaround

1. Go to search Service Application, manage page > click File types.
2. Click New file type, type .mpp and click OK.
3. To confirm, you can check file type again to see if .mpp has been added to it in the list or not.
4. After adding a new file type, perform a full crawl.
5. Now, you can search for Microsoft project files.

Note

If after full crawl; you are not able to search the result for .mpp files, then you must do an index reset and full crawl.
