A new expression requires () or [] after type

Question

Hi..
in following code this error is happening,(A new expression requires () or [] after type) I can't understand what is missing..

StringFormat format2 = new StringFormat {
                    Alignment = StringAlignment.Center,
                    LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center,
                    FormatFlags = 0x800
                };

also this way you can try.. StringFormat format2 = new StringFormat(); format2.Alignment = StringAlignment.Center; format2.LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center; format2.FormatFlags = StringFormatFlags.NoClip;

I was wondering why both of your's code doesn't throw an error in VS 2008/2010. Now got the reason. Thanks Vulpes for sharing that information.

Just thinking about this some more I'm wondering whether you're still using one of the earlier versions of Visual Studio - 2005 or 2003 - which don't support object initializers? This is because object initializers do allow you to omit the () if there's a parameterless constructor which there is for the StringFormat class. If you are using one of these earlier versions then you've no choice but to do it Suthish's way.

You need to add some parentheses after StringFormat on the RHS: StringFormat format2 = new StringFormat () { Alignment = StringAlignment.Center LineAlignment = StringAlignment.Center FormatFlags = 0x800 };
