buddy, row=ds.Tables[0].Rows.Find("xx") returns datarow. if the data is available then you will get the row position. by using below code row[0].ToString() . else you will get the null value

my suggestion is go with disconnected architecture (Ado.net). for example i'm having text box and submit button in front end, now get the value of the text box (eg string Name= txtName.Text;) As part of ado dotnet part create a connection string and play with the ado dotnet part Refer: http://codex.blog.com/source-code/ado-dot-net/

When using Find() method of DataRow make sure that the value exist and the value is the primary key. Also check for null before accessing the result. For example: DataRow foundRow = table.Rows.Find(pkValue); // check the value of column if it's null if(foundRow != null){ //do stuff }
