Inheritance was added in C++ for many reasons. The major reason being the capability to express inheritance relationship: that is CAR is a Vehicle. Also inheritance helps you reduce the amount of code and the number of lines of code you have to write. Moreover Inheritance allows you to write code to handle certain cases and allows other developers to write code that handles specialized cases, while you still continue with your code. Generalization and Specialization concepts are helpful in teams working in parallel while developing code. We may be able to modify and/or reuse sections of the inheritance hierarchy without disturbing existing code. Integrates blackbox and whitebox reuse by allowing extensibility and modification without changing existing code. Using well tested base classes helps reduce bugs in applications that use them. Reduces object size. Enhances extensibility and comprehensibility.
