AJAX CONTROLS VS VALIDATION CONTROLS

Hi friends I have just begun to use AJAX controls in my project... For ex: FilterTextBox control... I don`t understand what is the use of validation controls if we now have AJAX control... Are they a substitute to validation controls now?

AJAX controls are an extension to what ASP.NET offers. Raj Kumar is right and I'd add that using AJAX will slow you page a bit as there are some dlls to be executed. There are ways to minimize the impact. More AJAX controls here

The difference between the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions Validation and the ASP.NET 2.0 Validation controls is that the ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions validation registers expando attributes and script compatible with partial page rendering by using the script registration methods of the ScriptManager control. When using ASP.NET 2.0 AJAX Extensions validators the control to validate and the validator should be inside the same UpdatePanel control. Validators outside of UpdatePanel controls should use the script registration methods of the ClientScriptManager control.
