Animation frame rate

Hello all. I'm trying this for the first time so your advice will really help out. I want to display an .AVI or flip a series of frames, so that I can control the frame rate. For example there is an animation playing in a picture box, the user moves a slider and the animation slows down. I'm looking for 16 or 32 bit color with a 512 x 512 size. What is the simplest way to get good results? should I use a DDraw animated sprite? what?

The animation are rather small loops so memory souldn't be an issue. I'm creating them with uncompressed individual frames so decompressing is also out of the picture. I'm going to try both methods and see how they fly. Thanks for your help Mike

If the frames are pre-loaded into memory and are uncompressed the simplest way would be to use GDI+ and just draw each frame. A DDRAW surface will be much faster but it may not be necessary. Your dilemma will probably be the decompressing of the AVI or the large memory requirements of holding frames in memory.
