I gave up on VSM and most other fawcette publications. IMHO they are worse than PC Magazine for snuggling up to the boss and tossing unbiased articles out the window. In addition I hate the style where they tease you with a crippleware example and tell you to go online to get the code. I understand the idea of not printing all the code but the printed examples are often times more confusing than helpful because they reference too much of the unprinted material. Oftentimes you'll see things like. MySpecialClass mySpec = new MySPecialClass(.........); ... this is where mySpec does all the work .... and then 43 lines dedicated to formatting the output to fit some obscure non-real-world web-based output that no one who cares about standards and usability would ever do. Not to mention the article is about what the MySpecialClass does anyway and THAT'S what needs to be featured. In short their techinal editors leave alot to be desired. $.02
