app to shut down my pc after specified duration

i want to write a program that will shutdown my computer after a specified duration, or when the clock passes a certain time. how would i that? would i create a windows service? how do you get the time from my computer? ( i know there are many programmes out there to do this for me but i want to do it myself). anyone have any ideas on the subject at all?

How much programming experiance have you had?? you can shut down the computer using a function in the user32.dll but DllImports can be ... interesting ... to work with if you haven;t used them before.
