Question

i know this does not belong here but i like this forum and hoped someone might know of some GOOD forums that deal with operating system ins and outs forinstance someone mentioned a core dump the other day and i had no idea what it was. thanks.

dunno about proper forums but i'll take a stab at the core dump bit. if I remember correctly it means saving an exact copie of the current Operating state (running programs OS states whatever more) which is currently loaded into memory to a file for later reviewing. Windows does this when some serious Exception is thrown somewhere. On Win2k and XP at least.. the error would usually causes the widely feared Bluescreen of Death on win98 < machines. On XP and 2K the system will save the currently loaded memory to a file meant for debugging and such. That's basicly what a coredump means . Note that I am no expert though I could be completely wrong. I'm basing this on my experience as I've seen XP do this 2 or 3 times in the past 2 years of using it. (wonderfull isn't it? :) 2+ years of intensive use and only 3 times has it crashed gotta love XP. Solid as a rock.)
