First thing you need to make sure is whether the machine is capable or executing it or not such as an executable for Windows 8 Metro-based apps won't run on Windows 7 or previous some other factors that come into action are the .NET framework version; if building a .NET application. You need to be sure that the .NET framework is present on the client's machine also because these .NET applications require you to have .NET framework installed. Once that has been set up you can send the executable on the client's machine and execute it. You can possibly (before building) set the .NET framework's target to a lower version which is present on the client's machine from the Properties window too.
