Well IIS is of course Microsoft's web server software for Windows and I think I'm right in saying that for ASP.Net appplications the server must be running IIS or the cutdown 'development' version which comes with Visual Studio. However IIS isn't itself a managed application - it's an unmanaged application written in C++.
