I am creating project for student so I want to generate Auto Number In C# for Roll Number and store it in database.

instead of manually generating it when you create database column Just Set Column datatype int and then make Identity property true that will automatically generate numbers in sequence .

don't confuse sudhir be consistent with job let's see something what do u want to do with generated number? (i) for random generation of number: use random as i suggested above or (ii) for sequence and series: use database auto-number look at image

Also for Abhimanyu's sample code for generating random numbers I think it is important to make it clear for beginners that the Random object should be created only once per execution. There might be times when we need to create more than one Random object but normally there would be just one per execution.

I have attached a file. There is a TextBox for Bill No. Now when i click on New button It should display 102 then 103104105 and so on.. in Bill No which is read only. and it should be stored in database.

my friend there are lots of difference between student's roll and random number. roll number increases always by 1 but random number has no such fixed rule. it will be nice if you defined 'AutoNumber' and increase by 1 in database then it will do automatically for you. However if you wish to work with random number then use this one: int rollno = 0; Random ran = new Random(); rollno = ran.Next(); Now use rollno as student's roll. Hope this helps
