I want to create a program that will - somehow - monitor downloads. Just downstream is fine, I don't particularly care about upstream.
However, I have no idea about how I might create such a thing. One thought is creating a proxy and setting up every internet-accessing program to run through it - though that does seem a bit too setup-heavy. And I'm sure all those products for this sort of thing out there do it better. Plus, I'm afraid I wouldn't know how to do THAT either.
I could, I suppose, download one of them and just use it, but I'd like to make it myself. There are a lot of things I could learn through this.
So, uh, how to go about this?
