[C#] How can i shutdown a PC

Question

Hi and happy new year everybody :) I would like to be able to shutdown (and reboot) and computer running Windows XP. I've found something about the ExitWindowsEx API but it doesn't seems to work. Anyone have an idea ? Thanks

you can use this: to shutdown: Call Shell(shutdown /s  False ) to logoff: Call Shell(shutdown /L  False ) This is much less code and works on almost any windows OS. Have at it!

when i call the function using this line of code : WINAPIProcess.ExitSystem(WINAPIProcess.EWX_ENUM.EWX_FORCEREBOOT); it come out error message like this : The best overloaded method match for 'WINAPIInterface.WINAPIProcess.ExitSystem(int)' has some invalid arguments Argument '1': cannot convert from 'WINAPIInterface.WINAPIProcess.EWX_ENUM' to 'int' what wrong actually? thanks for help.

Does this method not require any sort of credentials (username/password) to rebbot a remote computer? Is it a standard class that can be used by ANYONE? or there are some rights associated with it?

Hi and thx for your help really thx but i have one more question how can i abort the shutingdown i know that i have to use the AbortSystemShutdown(null) function but i want to know how can i use it thx alot

yes i've found it : now i would like to know how i can for making the computer entering in hibernation ? Becuse with your code you can only reboot shutdown or log-off an user (which is all what i need + the one i ask ) ;-) Thanks

copy and paste the last post into a class file then do using WINAPIInterface; WINAPIProcess.ExitSystem(WINAPIProcessEWX_ENUM.EWX_FORCEREBOOT);

The traditional Win32API has InitiateSystemShutdown and InitiateSystemShutdownEx functions. These will only work with NT4 2000 XP and 2003. You could call them using InteropServices. You could also do this from Visual C++. I don't know of a way to do this in C# without interop.
