C# read xml data information

Question

Hi!

I am new to C#. Now I have one project which needs to read a 130kb xml file, and display some of its data with a GUI.
What component I should use to display the data? I need a combobox to select between different datasets.

Hi, Here is my result. I can make it in ListBox. But the first three should be in one row. not column. That is why I want it in DataGridView. Hi, I know this. This will take all the nodes information from xml. Now I only need to get some of the nodes, not all. That is why I think I need to use XPath. But I do not know how to connect XPath with datagrid.... Thanks Emma

The xml is generated by another application... I tried using ds.select("ID"), but it said no select funciton in this library ...sorry I do not know how to work with C# BR

No, After writting: datasetObj.ReadXml(path); datasetObj.select("username"); like above u can write query on dataset.

hi, It only shows the first line of xml file, I think reason behind we are taking first table of dataset. var dymmydataTable = ds.Tables[0]; it might be possible, other datatable of the dataset has value that you required. also please share sample of your xml file.

Hi, I think your idea is doable for my project. Can you tell me is newdt is a data table? After this :dataGridView1.DataSource = newdt; I should copy the data from table to dataset. Is that so? And How to do this.. I get confused ... Thanks ! BR Emma

ok ideally you want to show first 200 and on next button click want to show next 200. right? to achieve this you have to introduced you own logic. Hi, Thanks again. But the problem is that my .xml file may change, my program should work for different files not only one. So I can not count how many to take or to skip. The only thing I have is that the ID is different.. some is 100 -200 some is 400,500... so I need to split them ...:( Hope you understand what I mean BR Emma

hi, there is good idea to create other datasource and assign it to data grid view. DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.ReadXml(@"E:	est	estProject	estProject	estProject\XMLFile1.xml"); //here you may specify the page numbers instead of 200. var newdt = ds.Tables[0].AsEnumerable().Skip(200).Take(200).CopyToDataTable(); datagrid1.DataSource = newdt; hope this will help you.

Hi, Thanks for your help first :D Yes, you are right, datagridview is the correct one I should use...I am doing windown based application, not web.. But I have one more problem, how can I get the value of the first column, as I want when I press first button all the rows which 400 will show...like that... Do you know how can I get the value and compare it with like 200,400? They are in one .xml file, so I think maybe I need to split them into different dataset? Thanks a lot. BR Emma

hi, I thing, you can use datagrid view control show the selected table data. DataSet ds = new DataSet(); ds.ReadXml(@"E:	est	estProject	estProject	estProject\XMLFile1.xml"); are you using window base application or web base application? both type of application containing datagrid. hope this will help you.
