C# 2.0 spec released

Question

In case any of you missed it Microsoft released the design specifications document for C# 2.0 (Whidbey) yesterday. I've briefly read it and it goes into quite a bit of detail regarding the new generics anonymous methods partial types and iterators. A good read. This is indeed an interesting article. Thank god its written in plain english for once :P Im very curious about the generics as well they appear to be quite a revolution. I' can allready think of a number of instances where I would require these as opposed to the oldfashioned way. Havning played with them a few weeks back I can allready tell the performance boost is very much worth rewriting the some of my corelib classes. Im still a bit fuzzy about the anonymous methoids tho. they seem to be mostly convenient to the programmer... I prefer having all the same type of code generated in the same way to imrpoove code readability. Having half the delegates being specified as inline wont do that any good.. Besides that I very often reuse eventhandlers from diferent locations. A well prolly a matter of taste I guess. Whats also promissing is the partial types. IL assembler allready supported this in the first version but I kinda missed it in C#. Allthough it's logical I'm kinda disappointed it doesnt work for allready compiled assemblies tho.

it must be something that bitter Minnesotaions do when the Twins lose.. :)) Ouch that hurt morgan. :) Hey at least the Yankees lost the WS hahah! We Minnesotans are quite happy about that heh. ;) Getting back on topic Amit there are a few new keywords including 'where' (used in generics to specify a condition and 'yield' (used in iterators to return the next object in the collection). That's not too bad. I'm really excited about generics though - can't tell you how many times I've had to write custom collection classes just to get the appearance of strongly typed objects returned. Generics will also solve the problem of storing an unknown number of value types in a collection - we can do it now but it requires boxing which induces a lot of overhead. IMO generics is gonna be *really* useful ... can't wait. :)
