Use Literal control when generating html from the server. asp : Literal ID =Literal1 runat =server> asp : Literal > Then in your code you can do: protected void Page_Load( object sender EventArgs e) { string myString =  R  ; Literal1.Text = myString; }

You need to give your HTML element an ID and set runat=server attribute to it so you can access it in your code behind. For example if you have a element and want to access it you can do like this: Then in your code behind you can do: string spanCSS = Span1.Attributes[class];
