Iftikar's suggestion also works if (as I assumed originally) the DropDownList is within some container on the page. But as Sanjeeb said you are stuck with the contents of the DataValueField rather than the DataTextField if you use Request.Form. If you want the DataTextField then I'd use FindControl instead: DropDownList dropDown = FindControl(ddl.UniqueID) as DropDownList; if (dropDown != null) Label1.Text = dropDown.SelectedItem.Text;

If you are using UserControl then you need to use Request.Form[ddl.UniqueID]; Regards Iftikar
