Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider

Question

Hi all I am creating linked server from my SQL server 2014 for MySQL database using ODBC driver but I am getting error Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider MSDASQL for linked server MYSQL. OLE DB provider MSDASQL for linked server MYSQL returned message [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified. (Microsoft SQL Server Error: 7303) Please let me know any suggestion or solution on it

Hi Nilesh Thank you for your sugesstion. I fixed the issues and got solution for linked server. 1. Create datasource under system 2. We can create linked server only in sql server installed system. it is not possible to create linked server on remote system.

make sure you have specified server name user name passwords correctly and there is no misspelling/typos make sure the mysql server is not blocking incoming connections from sql server instance also make sure the ODBC datasource is created under SYSTEM and not under USER
